Days before the end of the 2022-23 school year, Livermore High School celebrated the completion of the campus's brand-new aquatics complex featuring a 12-lane swimming pool, diving boards and water polo field.
City leaders joined student athletes, school board members, district and school staff, bond oversight members and parent leaders to mark the completion of the facilities with a ribbon cutting ceremony last Friday.
The project is among a number of recent Measure J-funded improvements, along with the updated LHS gymnasium that was completed last spring. Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District officials said these transformational projects, "will provide our current students, future students and our greater community with state of the art facilities for decades to come."
Measure J is a $245 million facilities bond passed by voters in 2016 to repair and upgrade aging facilities within the district. In a statement highlighting the impact of the updated aquatic facilities at Granada High School that were completed two years ago, Superintendent Chris Van Schaack also thanked Livermore voters for making the renovations possible.
"New facilities like this not only benefit our students, but also become resources for our greater community. Granada High School's pool, which was completed in the spring of 2021 as part of the Measure J Bond, has been widely used by local swim teams, hosted swim league tournaments and water polo events, and been a testing and training location for the US Airforce and Alameda County Sheriff's Office. We have no doubt that the Livermore pool will experience similar use and we have the voters to thank for that," Van Schaack said.
